In 2012, Colin Kaepernick led his team, the San Fransisco 49ers to the superbowl. In 2017 he would be playing his last season as a quarterback by supporting those without a voice. In a preseason same in 2016 Kaepernick sat during the national anthem. Kaepernick tells NFL media. " I am not going to stand up to show pride in a flag for a country that oppresses black people and people of color." At that time the league had responded by saying standing up for the anthem was encouraged but not required. The NFL was initially behind Kaepernick and his form of protesting for unarmed  black men being murdered by police officers and white supremacists. The first regular season game many players on different NFL teams begin to kneel or raise a fist along with Kaepernick. These members would be the early adapters, the ones who were there to support him right away no matter the consequences. Kapernick may never have thought his act during the anthem would begin to stretch towards other sports including the WNBA and even high school teams. At the end of his season he opts out of his contract for a better situation but no offers come. By the start of the next season more players protest and Kaepernick has yet to be signed even after reaching out to all 32 teams.
